McFarlane Toys continues to deliver on expanding the DC Multiverse with their latest issue including one of the primetime landscape's most popular heroes, THE FLASH as he appears in the Seventh Season of The CW series.
The Fastest Man alive fully articulated, and in the palm of your hand! Ever since McFarlane Toys purchased the imprint to produce DC-related collectibles in 2020, they’ve been purposefully putting their creativity to the challenge. Under the DC Multiverse branding, they’ve engineered collectible action figures that have included The Batman and Superman of the DC Comics “Rebirth” era, figures based on the animated Justice League series, and even produced live-action interpretations of DC characters from blockbuster movies to primetime.
From right out the gate fans were extremely excited by the news that one-time comic book illustrator Todd McFarlane, who is also known for his lucrative mastery in the high-end collectible toy market, had decidedly inserted himself into the DC Multiverse of toys. For a long time, DC had been harnessed the power of producing their own line of action figures, part of the DC Direct and then the DC Collectibles line of figures, statues, and accessories. The last successful series featured the “Icons” line of highly detailed, heavily articulated, and accessorized 6.75-inch high figures, which replaced “The New 52” line of figures, which were timed and released to help support the 2014 reboot of the imprint.
With the “DC Multiverse” line of toys and accessories, McFarlane was given a lease to explore character interpretations from across the entire history and the development of DC comics, graphic novels, films, and television series (live-action and primetime). In the premiere release, McFarlane included a version of Green Arrow based on the character’s appearance on The CW primetime series Arrow and since then fans have been anticipating the release of additional figures based on the primetime universe. Zack Snyder’s Justice League reboot may have preempted any plans to dive into primetime, as those figures took president, along with versions of the Amazing Amazon from Wonder Woman 1984.
But now, the wait is over…
Fastest Figure Alive!
Green Arrow’s super-powered, fellow adventurer from nearby Central City, the Scarlet Speedster himself The Flash as realized in The CW primetime hit series by actor Grant Gustin in the suit the hero appears in Season 6 and 7, has just been introduced as the latest live-action action figure in McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse line of action figures. The figure bears a striking likeness to his television counterpart and includes various lightning bolt accessories to simulate his connection to the Speed Force, a stand for display, and a collectible card. The action figure is also packaged in a collectible blister pack.
Measuring 7 inches, the figure’s proportions are almost exactly a match for the live-action hero and features 22 points of articulation. For reference, this version of “The Flash” is among the most iconic, as it’s the suit the hero wore during the 5-part crossover event “Crisis on Infinite Earths” and markedly just prior to his latest redo which incorporates the gold boots; a detail that fans were hoping the character would adopt to evoke the look of his comic book legacy design. The gold boots finally made their debut in Season 8 of The Flash.
Over the years, there have been several action figure interpretations of the television “Flash”, including some very high-end releases from Hot Toys, for example, that really went the distance to capture the likeness of the hero. DC itself featured a series of action figures that delivered several of the primetime “Arrowverse” heroes and villains from Arrow to DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and even Constantine. We’re not purporting that this version from McFarlane Toys is the best on the market, but it is a handsome recreation and perfectly detailed, giving you a first-hand look at the costume up close.
Although McFarlane Toys prides itself on exceptional detailing, the figure articulation is often clunky and/or limiting especially in the lower torso and legs. This particular offering also has only a few accessories aside from the lightning details and display stand. It could have been packaged with swappable hands, or even an unmasked headpiece since Barry often wears his cowl down on the show. For the ticket price of $19.99, it is still a pleasant offering and a desirable collectible and will make a formidable ally to the Green Arrow on your shelf.
