UnBoxing | DC Multiverse GREEN ARROW from McFarlane Toys

The primetime heroes may have just faced a “crisis” of infinite measures, but for the avid collector the DC Multiverse is getting a whole new opportunity at playability with McFarlane Toys brand new line of highly detailed action figures.

It’s an exciting time for collectors! One of the leading high-end manufacturers of desirable collectibles geared toward the adult-collector McFarlane Toys has acquired a license to produce action figures based on the DC Multiverse. To inaugurate the line, the head of McFarlane Toys himself, legendary artist/designer Todd McFarlane went online to properly “unbox” the first tier of offerings that span all the various mediums of the DC universe from the publishing imprint, to television, to motion pictures!

Among the first in the line is an action figure of Green Arrow based on the character appearing on The CW Original Series Arrow from the 2018 season of the show. The figure is crafted from high-quality materials and features “22 Moving Parts” and accessories, including the hero’s bow and quiver with arrows. Collectors will also have the option to pose the figure on a display stand. To even further entice the collector’s desirability, each figure is packaged with a trading card detailing facts and stats on the DC Multiverse hero’s abilities.

With the recent sacrifice of Oliver Queen during this season’s epic “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover on The CW, no doubt fans will be on the lookout for collectible memorabilia to honor Star City’s Emerald Archer. Stephen Amell portrayed the streetwise urban vigilante for Eight Seasons on the hit show, and ended the run heralded a new age of heroes that was followed by the reboot of The Flash starring Grant Gustin. Now there are an additional 4 primetime series populating The CW’s “Arrowverse”.

Moving Parts

As sculpted by the craftsmen at McFarlane Toys, the figure is perfectly sized at an impressive 7” in height which makes it easy to handle, especially for adult collectors who occasionally want to pose and play with their action figure when no one is looking. Based on the Green Arrow as he appears on The CW series Arrow and fashioned after the actor that has popularized the hero for eight seasons, but it’s not the most accurate likeness of Stephen Amell. The facial features and detailing are more inline with the character as it appeared in the animated adventures.

The figures articulation is also somewhat limited; when you consider that so many more high-end toy manufacturers are able to render even their most basic figures now with nearly 32 points or more. The most McFarlane Toys promises with the Green Arrow figure is 22 points, though the outfit detail and especially the bow and quiver are well crafted. The soft feel and one-piece craftsmanship of the archer’s leather jacket conceals the ball-jointed torso joint that allows the figure to twist in the middle.

Overall most fans will not be disappointed in the least by McFarlane Toys take on the DC Multiverse action figure interpretation of Green Arrow from Arrow, but there have been better figures on the market. The figure is carefully and accurately detailed, but has often been the case with McFarlane Toys (this was evident in their line of Star Trek: Enterprise figures) there’s a peculiar rotation of the knee and ankle joints of these figures which require a bit of massaging to get into the proper positioning. The figures articulation is decent, but it’s not great.
