Perhaps it feels like Lady Gaga has been away a long time from making music, but while the one-time Mother Monster has been off the radar, she hasn’t been keeping a low profile. Gaga made quite the impression as the centrifugal character appearing in the Fifth Season of the hit FX anthology series American Horror Story: Hotel (and returned for Season Six). She also nabbed an Oscar nomination, as well as a Golden Globe and Emmy nomination.
Lady Gaga released a duet album of jazz standards, a passion project that had the pop songstress teaming up with her idol Tony Bennett on Cheek to Cheek in 2014. So when the artist teased to her devoted fans that she’d be dropping a new single, no one expected “Perfect Illusion” to have the resonance that it demanded and that put it at #1 debuting on iTunes in 60 countries. It’s a welcome resurgence for an artist that made as always made an indelible impression on the music scene.
Her fifth studio album, the highly anticipated Joanne will be released on Oct 21, and is available already for pre-order in stores, via Lady Gaga’s own website, and on digital download platforms in Standard, Deluxe and Vinyl formats. The single “Perfect Illusion” will download immediately along with the new single, the haunting ballad “Million Reasons” giving the indication that the set list on Joanne — named after her beloved aunt — will be an eclectic mix of all-new hits.
Already the buzz around Gaga’s latest project is generating a great response, especially as it will feature collaborations with Mark Ronson and Florence Welch to name just a few, and feature some additional surprises. The artist has said in interviews that working on the music for this album revealed a side of herself that she was unfamiliar with, a darker side. Inevitably, Joanne will be a highlight of the fall music season.
Lady Gaga has also been announced as the headlining performer for the Super Bowl Half-Time Show to air Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017. Historically the Super Bowl event is widely regarded as the largest performance stage for any artist performing for millions as it broadcasts across the world.
