The Material Girl thaws out one of her greatest hits giving “Frozen” an extreme remix by Sickick featuring Fireboy DML and reignites the fascination that has enthralled her fanbase for decades.
Give yourself to me. It’s the mantra that the Queen of Pop Madonna has chanted to her audience as she continues to evolve. Though we’re hardly at the halfway mark of this year, it is worth noting that 2023 will inaugurate the Material Girl turned Mercurial Woman’s 40th-anniversary introduction as a pop music icon. Her self-titled debut album landed on store shelves in 1983 and yielded 6 chart-topping hits including “Lucky Star”, “Borderline”, “Burning Up” and the landmark “Holiday” among others.
Critics were more than ready to cast off Madonna as little more than just a one-hit-wonder, but the hits kept coming and transcended from the pop charts to the dance charts to the early days of MTV, embedding the Michigan native into the vernacular. As a performer, Madonna would rise to the top and carve a musical legacy, unlike any of her contemporaries. As the 90s started to come to a close, Madonna was in a league of her own and would release the most innovative album of her career. Ray of Light rebroadcast just how groundbreaking as an artist she could be, enlightening and elevating electronic dance music to a whole new level.
The album released in 1998 debuted at #1 and created an even bigger stir with its lead single “Frozen” which reunited Madonna with long-time collaborators Patrick Leonard, and William Orbit. It’s not a surprise that the track is getting reinvented in an eerily ghostly remix by DJ/producer Sickick with guest performer Nigerian singer Fireboy DML who provides the added lyrics to the remake. The music video incorporates imagery from the ’98 original which introduced Madonna fans to one of her alternate personalities “Veronica Electronica” of the Ray of Light era.
