iTunedIN | KYLIE MINOGUE “Say Something”

Kylie Minogue is taking us back to the DISCO with a brand new single “Say Something” from the forthcoming album.

Not one to sit things out, Kylie Minogue appears poised to return to the dance-pop charts and surprised fans with the release of a brand new single from her forthcoming album project this week. “Say Something” is the first single from DISCO the follow up to her 2018 Golden which featured a radically different Minogue. Taking some inspiration from new producers while working stateside, the concept behind her last work was derived from much more natural instrumentation and American country music.

The celebratory album was critically well-received and was followed up with a live tour which included many hit tracks from Golden as well as her career chart-toppers, and the disco-heavy dance opus “New York City” which was prominently placed on her expansive greatest hits package Step Back In Time: The Definitive Collection. Otherwise, Minogue has kept pretty quiet, and settled back, mostly one would imagine due to the COVID-19 crisis that has all-but put a pause across the entertainment industry, so imagine the surprise when “Say Something” dropped!

The single is co-produced by long-time collaborator Biff Stannard and the premiere track from Disco her 15th studio album appears to be perfectly in-sync with our current times. “Say Something” has an elevated and inspiring feel to it; reminiscent of “All The Lovers”. The track is about bringing everyone together, especially now despite our quarantine. “We’re a million miles apart in a thousand ways... Love is love, it never ends,” the lyric boasts. Nevermore profound has a sentiment hit so close to home for so many.

DISCO is set to be widely-released in November and will incorporate a specially designed visual concept curated and created by Kylie Minogue with director Kate Moross and video director Sophie Muller, which will undoubtedly be exceptionally appealing and enthusiastically received among audiences are craving new interactive components while navigating social distancing — which has all-but eliminated live performances and touring due to COVID-19.

Your DISCO Needs You!

Kylie cited in a recent article with RollingStone.com her thrill over collaborating with Tove Lo on her recent album, yielding the track “Really Don’t Like You” and suggested that the pair might again work again. With DISCO diving right into Minogue’s most cherished territory (at least in theory), the more dance music evolves, the more it remains the same, with Kylie Minogue delivering new music, the timing of DISCO couldn’t be better. It’ll be interesting to see how well-received an uptempo dance concept will do, with nightlife effectively on pause. Kylie will have us all on replay!
