iTRAILER | DC Studios’ SUPERMAN Flies High!

The Official Teaser Trailer Soars with Fans

The first glimpse of the feature-length reboot that will relaunch the DC cinematic universe under the watchful guile of DC Studios head James Gunn reveals a David Corenswet as the Man of Steel and a sidekick that steals the moment!

ART

Nary, a single fanboy (and girl) across the country, had expected the Official Teaser Trailer for the most anticipated summer movie to leave the impression it did! Across the pop-culture zeitgeist, James Gunn’s Superman, starring David Corenswet, hit the planet with a seismic crash [literally]. Still, it wasn’t the latest actor appearing in the iconic red cape that got everyone’s attention. As the teaser opens, Superman has landed with a crushing thud into a frozen, arctic tundra near his Fortress of Solitude, and with what might be his last breath, he whistles…

In the distance, something (or someone) is hurtling toward our hero at incredible speed, kicking up an ice storm in its wake, and when it arrives before him, revealed is the canine wonder of the world, Krypto — the Super Dog, marking his first appearance in live-action! Leading up to the reveal of a superman’s best friend, the teaser also gives us glimpses of DC Studio’s first feature-length entry in its (re)establishing of the DC cinematic mythology. Gunn and his co-conspirator, producer Peter Safran, have assumed the reigns of challenging Marvel’s cinematic universe.

Anyone skeptical of the pair’s ability to retcon and reboot DC’s prolific pantheon, one of Hollywood’s biggest conundrums, has gained hope from the Superman teaser. From the inherent nod to John Williams’ iconic theme to the larger-than-life moments showing the Man of Steel saving the day, there are also significant references to some major character development. Scenes depict Superman (Corenswet) as more powerful than a locomotive defending a vulnerable little girl from a devastating fate while at the same time hounded by an apathetic crowd hurling threats at him.

The teaser trailer also reveals that the Superman/Lois love affair is in effect, with Rachel Brosnahan as intrepid Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane taking flight with her hero and deep into the paper’s bullpen. Nicholas Hoult has taken the heavy lift of portraying Superman’s arch nemesis, Lex Luthor, and appears more than prepared to end the Man of Tomorrow’s days. The trailer encompasses locations from a terrifying creature laying waste to Metropolis to vistas from deep space and orbit and introduces some new and familiar faces to DC fans!

It’s DOOMSDAY!

This is Gunn’s opportunity to entice audiences with an entry point for what shape DC Studio’s cinematic universe will look like; the teaser trailer reveals that Superman isn’t the only hero in town. He will be joined by a Green Lantern, Nathan Fillion, embodying the brash Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan will be introduced as Metamorpho, the Elemental Man. Also, Isabela Merced takes flight as Hawkgirl, with Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, suggesting that the Justice Society may exist in some form. House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock is likely suiting up to kick-off Supergirl.

Members of Gunn’s animated Creature Commandos (episodes available on HBO Max) have also been rumored to be making their presence known in the feature. However, they aren't seen in the teaser. Above all, the look of the footage has also drawn much attention, with a much brighter palette than what audiences have been used to during the Zack Snyder era. Superman looks hopeful, emulating the colors of the 1978 Richard Donner blockbuster that made us all believe that a man can fly. Superman already has fans excitingly looking up! Bring us home, Krypto!
