iReview | STAR WARS - The Skywalker Saga on 4K

And now the circle is complete! The entire epic is once again released for the best possible home viewing experience available now. All 9-episodes are presented for the first time in stunning 4K Ultra HD with precision theater-quality sound.

Over the years there have been several home video releases of George Lucas’ epic Star Wars Saga. When the original trilogy and prequels were released on Blu-ray, for many fans that became the definitive film versions and many anticipated would represent the best possible way to experience the films in the comfort of your own living room. As the technology continued to evolve and home theaters became much more practical and affordable, the market kept step with the demand — and that’s a good thing.

Providing the best possible theatrical experience has become a consumer expectation studios are more than readily prepared to provide. The advent of the 4K Ultra HD revolution meant that audiences now have the full capability of replicating the cinematic look and feel right at home, with unprecedented picture quality and immersive sound, now imagine applying those principles to perhaps the greatest blockbusters ever. Available for the first time Star Wars - The Skywalker Saga features the entire series, 9-episodes in 4K Ultra HD in one package!

The 27-disc set features the original Star Wars trilogy A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the prequel films The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, along with the latest sequel series The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker all presented in 4K Ultra HD accompanied by Blu-ray versions of each episode and a Digital Copy of the film series. Bonus Content is also included and handsomely packaged in an exclusive limited edition folio featuring artwork from across the epic.

The Complete Series

With the release of the latest film Star Wars - Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker the entire story, the legacy of the Skywalker family is complete, and this 4K Ultra HD presentation is startling profound. When the subscriber-based network Disney+ launched it premiered the Star Wars film saga would be uniquely featured. Each one of the full-length films in the catalog is presented in 4K, but the sound quality on disc is far more superior. The Disney+ releases are all presented in 5.1 sound; the discs are richer and far more immersive.

The film quality is also quite stunning! The original trilogy fits comfortably alongside the contemporary films in the series, including the prequel films allowing the saga to feel much more in continuity. The audio experience of the original films is lacking in comparison to the prequel and certainly the sequel trilogy, but it’s expected. You can hardly fault them. Obviously omitted from the box set are the Star Wars Story including Rogue One and Solo but neither of those films is part of the larger Skywalker epic and are available separately on 4K Ultra HD.

After diving into The Empire Strikes Back (arguably the best film in the series) the picture quality is remarkable and is extremely easy to perceive in many of the SFX scenes that take place on the ice planet of Hoth. By the team the action moves to Cloud City, it’s very clear that the filmmakers always had in mind the expectation that these movies would be uprezzed for future generations to enjoy. The box set is available exclusively and as a limited edition through Best Buy, but each film in the series has been released in the new format accordingly.
